D.A.R. Constitution Hall
Washington, District of Columbia
Constitution Hall, part of the historic headquarters of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), opened in 1929 and was designed by acclaimed architect John Russell Pope.
It was named a National Historic Landmark in 1985. Designed to host a wide range of event types, Constitution Hall seats 3,704 patrons in a space highlighted by a grand laylight in the curved ceiling, scenic murals, and decorative plasterwork.
The phased project replicated the original laylight and introduced a new rigging infrastructure for staging, improving safety and access by incorporating a fully removable access grid floor with guardrails across each bay of the laylight. The existing roof trusses were structurally reinforced using a retrofit post-tensioning system to accommodate both temporary hung scaffold loads as well as the changes in permanent loads.
